Kolaches are Czech pastries made of a yeast dough and usually filled with fruit, but sometimes cheese. ... Sounds very delicious but slightly complicated. You can make my recipe and make it easy. Kolaches are served for breakfast at our house and usually fly off the pan. I use blueberries for my filling but have also used raspberries.
Looking at the picture makes my want to make these again. They are just that good! You can see by the ingredients that we will not be using any yeast. These would be great for breakfast tomorrow morning.
We can get started on the filling mixture. Add the blueberries, ¼ cup sugar,1 teaspoon lemon juice and 2 tablespoons water to a pot. Turn the heat to medium heat and cook for about 9 minutes. Your mixture should start thickening. Turn the heat off and remove the mixture from the burner to cool slightly.
Okay! Time to start our Kolaches by melting your butter in the microwave. While it is melting you can go ahead and mix your sugar and cinnamon together.
Here we go, open your can of biscuits and dip a biscuit in the butter. Then dip the biscuit in the cinnamon mixture.
Look at the butter coating the biscuit and when you add the cinnamon it is unbelievably luscious.
Put them on a baking sheet with either parchment paper or a pan you have sprayed to prevent sticking to the pan.
As you can tell from the picture I use a spoon to make a little indentation in the middle of the biscuit. Yep, you can use your thumb as long as you wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds beforehand.
You are now ready to use the blueberry filling you made. Use a slotted spoon or carefully take the berries and leave the syrup in the pot.
That's right! They are kind of messy looking. But, you are ready to bake your Kolaches. Bake at 375° for about 15 minutes. Again, you know your oven so adjust as needed. You will know they are finished because the outside looks golden brown.
Frost the Kolaches while they are warm. These are served best warm. If by some chance you have any left you can heat them up in the microwave. You can find the recipe below. I hope you enjoy these easy pastries as much as we do.
