Reindeer snack Mix

Updated: Jul 22

Reindeer Snack Mix

Reindeer Snack Mix is all the rage these days. It's a sweet and salty twist on puppy chow. When our kids were little we would feed the reindeer that supposedly were in our front yard a good helping of...glitter and oatmeal. This is much better!

To get started you take a mixture of:

*Chex Cereal: I used Rice Chex and Corn Chex but you could also use Chocolate Chex.

*Powdered Sugar

*Mini Reeses: Available at most grocery stores.

*Salted Peanuts: I used lightly salted but you can decide

what works for you and your family.

*White chocolate chips

*Pretzels: You can use sticks or squares or any shape you want to use.

*M & M's: I was lucky enough to find red and green ones but you can surely use any type.

*Vanilla

*Caramel-Purchase or use the type that you would use on ice cream.

*Peanut butter: I use Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter.

*Semi sweet chocolate chips

*Butter: Oh, how I love butter.

If I am being honest it does take more ingredients than I usually use in a recipe but that's just because it tastes so darn good.

Let's get started.

In a medium size bowl combine the chocolate chips, caramel, peanut butter, butter and vanilla.

Microwave in 1 minute increments stiring after each minute. I did 2 minutes in my microwave stirring after each minute and that did the trick.

Using a very large bowl add the Chex Cereal and dump the chocolate microwaved mixture over the top. Make sure to gently stir as you don't want to break the cereal.

It takes a bit to get everything mixed up but you can do it. Some people put it in a bag and shake but I prefer this method. You do what makes you happy. After the cereal is completely covered in the chocolate mix add the powder sugar and mix again until the cereal mixture is entirely covered in powdered sugar.

You can see that it is coated in powdered sugar but not overly coated. Next is the fun part! Add the Mini Reeses, M&M's, peanuts, white chips and pretzels.

I love this picture. It looks so good! Now go ahead and wash your hands. Then dig in using your hands or you could use a wood spoon and mix it all together until it looks something like this!

Reindeer Snack Mix

This is such an easy recipe. It takes a few minutes to make the Puppy Chow but then it takes just a minute or so to add the rest and mix it up. I am going to put it in cute little bags and deliver to friends and neighbors for the holidays. You can also make this gluten free by adding gluten free pretzels or just leave the pretzels out and add Cheerios.

Reindeer Snack Mix

Ingredients

10 Cups of Chex Cereal- I used 5 cups rice and 5 cups corn chex

3 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter

4 tablespoons caramel sauce

5 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 cups powdered sugar

2 cups white chips

2 cups peanuts

2 cups pretzels

Mini Reese-2 packages

2 cups M&M's

Directions:

  1. In a medium sized bowl mix together the chocolate chips, peanut butter, caramel, butter and vanilla.

  2. Microwave for 1 minute increments until entirely melted. Stirring after each minute until melted.

  3. Measure the Chex into a large bowl. Pour the chocolate mixture over the top and gently stir until the cereal is coated with chocolate.

  4. Add in powdered sugar and stir until all the cereal is coated with powdered sugar.

  5. Next add the white chips, pretzels, M&M's, peanuts and Mini Reeses. Use your hands or a wood spoon to mix it all together.

Missy's Tips:

  1. You can make this gluten free by simply omitting the pretzels or adding Cheerios instead of pretzels. (or use GF Pretzels)

  2. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
