That's right. This Taco Pie recipe is probably from 1970 something. But, forget the year...this is just a great easy meal for all ages. My kids loved it growing up and the fact it has Doritos was a big draw for the kids. (and adults)
You may have most the ingredients in your pantry but if not there is nothing fancy here. If I am being honest the grocery store was all out of Crescent Rolls. See picture below....So I ended up using some Pillsbury Pizza Dough I had in the refrigerator instead. I think it will work just fine for this recipe.
Start with the crescent rolls or in my case the pizza dough. Spray your pie pan or an 8 inch square pan. Spread the crescent rolls in the pan. So far pretty easy, right?
Add 1 cup of crushed Doritos or use plain corn chips. But if you are a cool mom you will use the Doritos.
Brown the ground beef. Drain the ground beef and add an envelope of Taco Seasoning. Unless you have made my taco seasoning, then add 3 tablespoons of Missy's Taco Seasoning. To this mixture add 1/2 cup of water and simmer for 10 minutes.
Next, add your ground beef mixture to the top of your crescent roll/crushed Dorito's pan.
Spread the sour cream over the top of the taco meat mixture. Yeah, it's a bit messy. Does it look like ice cream?
Then top with the cheese. I use whatever cheese I have at home which is usually Cheddar but I have used Pepper Jack Cheese before with good reviews.
Finally spread the rest of the Doritos on the top of the pie.
Ready, set, bake. Bake at 350° for 23 minutes.
Top with lettuce and diced tomatoes. It's just that easy to make supper tonight. I hope you try this recipe and enjoy it as much as my family has over the years.

Missy's Memos
Wouldn't this be great with shredded chicken? I think it would work.
You can also compliment the taco pie by serving with salsa, black olives, guacamole, etc.
What would I do to make this gluten free? Don't use the crust. Just put a layer of chips on the bottom of your pan. Then follow the rest of the recipe.
